75 Volunteers from Kaiser Permanente to build gardens at Einstein Charter School Extension4/17/2014 Starting today at Einstein Charter School Extension, 75 volunteers from Kaiser Permanente consortium will be on hand at the school to build extensive gardens throughout the campus.
Kaiser Permanente, an integrated managed care consortium, is based in Oakland, California and serves care to over 9 million members across the United States. “We are extremely excited and honored that Kaiser Permanente chose our school to help,” said Einstein Charter CEO Shawn Toranto. “We look forward to seeing our school beautified once the hard work is completed.” The school invites everyone to see the volunteers’ hard work on the gardens this Friday, April 18 from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm. at Einstein Charter School Extension, 5316 Michoud Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70129 behind Sarah T. Reed High School.

Cadets of NOMMA will participate in a clean up day at their new home aboard Federal City. Cadets will learn about the upcoming Earth Day and then break into Platoon sized formations to scour the Federal City site in search of errant garbage needing to be secured.
The cadets will meet on the school’s 425 O’Bannon St. campus in Federal City in Algiers on Friday, April 18 from 8:15 am to 10:30am. Over 350 cadets from the school will participate with the aim to help beautify Federal City and the community. The New Orleans Military and Maritime (NOMMA) Parent Organization (NPO) will host its 1st Annual Cadet Crawl 5K Fun Run on Saturday, May 10. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the race will begin at 8 a.m. in front of the New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy, located at 425 O’Bannon St. in Federal City in Algiers.
This event will be hosted on the grounds of Federal City in Algiers and is designed to promote community awareness of the school and to raise funds for the expansion of NOMMA’s athletic department. Registration on the day of the event is $35. Register before April 20 for only $25. Registration includes race bib and tee-shirt. T-shirt selections will be limited on the day of the event, so early registration is encouraged. Registration and sponsorship forms for the event can be downloaded at www.nomma.net. The 2013-2014 Louisiana Green Schools Challenge’s mission is to educate schools across the state about the benefits of green building and environmental stewardship by participation in hands-on real world projects. The Green Schools Challenge seeks to empower teachers and students by giving them the resources to make healthier and more productive classrooms. Through this program, school buildings become living teaching tools, where kids gain first-hand experience in issues of sustainability. Lusher's summer program, Summer Arts Intensive (SAI), will be offering a Music Institute offering dynamic courses in jazz improvisation, composing and arranging, theory and keyboard, and genres of musical history with an emphasis on New Orleans music, culture, and history. Throughout the month of June, classes will run from 9am to 3pm, Monday through Friday.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the Orleans Parish Assessor’s Office with its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for preparing an award-winning annual financial report.
GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals and its CAFR is awarded after an impartial review panel determines the office has met high standards of full disclosure and clear public communications. The certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government office and its management, stated GFOA. Assessor Williams is the only parochial Louisiana Assessor to receive the CAFR. The other special district recipient is the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. What: Ben Franklin High School is once again committing to beat childhood cancer. The school is partnering with the St. Baldrick Foundation for a special fundraising event raising money for childhood cancer research.
