A student cast of over 100 students from Lusher School, accompanied by Lusher’s own orchestra and stage crew, will bring the famous musical to life with a high quality performance and production. Mike Bagot is a native New Orleanian and lawyer at Wagner, Bagot & Rayer, LLP. The focus of his practice is on maritime, oilfield and insurance matters. He has been a member of the Board of the New Orleans Charter Schools Foundation (“NOCSF”) since 2006 and has served as its president. The Top Shelf caught up with Mike to discuss his experience serving on theNOCSF board over the past seven years.

She will be the featured speaker at a one-day symposium at Loyola University’s Miller Hall, Room 114 on Saturday, October 19, 2013, from 9 a.m. to noon, in New Orleans, to explore New Orleans’ connection to the 50th anniversary of the JFK murder. She is challenging New Orleans to rethink the Lee Harvey Oswald story. As a prelude to her Saturday talk, which will also feature Investigative Reporter Todd Elliott, author, A Rose by Many Other Names, Ms. Baker will tour sites important to the Summer and Fall of 1963, when she worked with and dated Oswald. The tour, currently offered to the public through StrangeTrueTours, will include 544 Camp, the Reily Coffee Company, Clay Shaw’s offices, and locations where Judy and LHO used to meet. Audubon Charter School, a top performing dual program school, announces its 2013-14 open houses for parents and prospective students in grades K-8. Audubon’s French Program recently gained accreditation by the French Ministry of Education through 8th Grade and is officially recognized as a school that conforms to the curricula defined by the French Ministry of National Education, the only accredited public school in Louisiana. The Top Shelf, a program of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS), will conduct a morning seminar on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 from 8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. at the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, 402 North Fourth Street, Baton Rouge, LA. The session will focus on financial obligations for charter school board members, emphasizing the critical processes and procedures that must be in place to assure financial integrity and operations.

The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) will hold an Open House for parents and prospective students in grades 9-12 on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 5:30-7pm at its temporary Westbank Campus in Federal City at 2000 Opelousas Ave., Building H-100, New Orleans, LA 70146. The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy is a new charter high school opened for the 2011-12 school year in Algiers. NOMMA is an open-admission charter, accepting students from all 10 metropolitan parishes. All students of NOMMA are also Cadets in the Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (MCJROTC) program.The campus will be re-locating to a brand new state-of-the-art Federal City campus in Algiers in January 2014. NOMMA’s founders are retired Marine Corps Officers who were inspired to fill the need for better quality public education and character-building in the community.
