The 6th annual Young Audiences Dancing for the Arts Gala will be held Friday, April 17th at 6:30 PM at Harrah’s Casino Theatre. The event will include an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and dinner by Harrah’s Casino.
The one-night event is modeled after the popular reality television program Dancing with the Stars, and will feature local community leaders competing on the dance floor with Young Audiences’ performing artists. This year’s competitors include Physician Adil Fatakia, Founder/Creative Director at Fashion Week New Orleans Tracee Dundas, Whitney National Bank VP and Philanthropist Marguerite Moisio, Executive Director of the the Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities Miranda Restovic, Councilmember Nadine Ramsey, and Attorney and Philantropist Michelle Craig. Over 200 students from eight area schools and community centers have been selected to perform at the Young Audiences’ Spring Spotlight on Thursday, March 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Tulane's McAlister Auditorium in New Orleans. The event is free and open to the public. Seating is limited and is on a first-come, first served basis.
The students will perform African drum and dance, modern and hip-hop dance, and ballet. There will also be marching bands, dramatic performances, and a steel pan ensemble. The performances will showcase what students have learned in Young Audiences’ after-school programs. The Young Audiences Charter School at Kate Middleton invites prospective students along with their families to attend an open house session to learn more about the school on Thursday, January 29 at 6:30 pm or Saturday, January 31 at 10am. The sessions will be held at Young Audiences Charter School, 1407 Virgil Street in Gretna.

Series: Director of Lincoln Center Institute to speak Jan. 261/14/2015 On Monday, January 26, 2pm, at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, 4521 Saint Charles Ave., Young Audiences of Louisiana and Sacred Heart will host a Professional Development Series for Community Arts Educators, beginning with an hour with Russel Granet, Executive Director of the Lincoln Center Institute. The public is invited to join Russel Granet, distinguished Artist, Educator, and International Consultant, for a Keynote Speech and Q & A Session.

This event kicks off Young Audiences’ Professional Development Series for Community Arts Educators. Future topics Include: Understanding the National Core Arts Standards (March), Integrating the Arts and Common Core State Standards (April), and Arts-Integrated Residency Design (June). Young Audiences Charter School at Kate Middleton (YACS) currently still has limited openings in grades K-1 for the 2014-15 school year at its 1407 Virgil St. campus in Gretna. Parents still looking for a school are strongly encouraged to register their children now.
School Leader Folwell Dunbar stated that there were still a few spots available in kindergarten and 1st grade at the school, but stressed that parents should not delay in registering. Painting with a Twist, the largest paint-and-sip franchise in the U.S., will give back to the New Orleans community with help from 200 of the organization’s franchisees. To kick off the company’s annual conference, franchise owners from across the country will come together help with a fresh look at Young Audiences Charter School. Volunteers will paint the walls in vibrant colors, artistic designs, and encouraging quotes. Additionally, the team will re-stock the school’s library with the more than 800 books they have collected.
All Painting with a Twist locations across the country have made a commitment to give back to their local communities with monthly fundraising events. This special event unites Painting with a Twist owners from across the nation to give back to Young Audiences Charter School, a school that promotes art-driven curriculum for underprivileged students. Young Audiences Charter School is happy to announce that students from the school will be performing both Fridays of Jazzfest.
On Friday, April 25 from 11:30 am - 12:15 pm, the Young Audiences Brass Band Throwdown will take place at the Kid’s Tent at Jazzfest. Young Audiences will also have students from McDonogh 32, Eisenhower, Lincoln, and Mahalia Jackson School on hand to assist the Young Audiences Brass Band with entertaining Jazzfest visitors. The following Friday, May 2 from 11:30 am – 12:15 pm, students from Young Audiences Charter School will return to the Kid’s Tent at Jazzfest to take part in the Performing Arts Showcase. Along with students from other schools, the Young Audiences Charter School ballet team will dazzle visitors with their nifty moves and acrobatic dance performance. The 5th annual Young Audiences Dancing for the Arts Gala will be held Saturday, March 22th at 6:30 PM at Harrah’s Casino Theatre. The event will include an open bar, hors d’oeuvres and dinner by Harrah’s Casino.
