In 2017, Warren Easton Charter High School and the Gia Maione Prima Foundation entered into a partnership to promote summer music education. With a gift of $45,000 to cover the next three years of summer music camp, the Gia Maione Prima Foundation guarantees that all interested students at the alma mater of legendary musician Louis Prima receive quality music education during their summer break. Camp education covers beginners’ instruction, jazz and concert instruction, and marching instruction and field choreography. Gia Maione Prima was the wife of the late Louis Prima.
“Summer camp has always been a priority for us, but we haven’t had the funds to conduct all relevant sections of music education,” says Ms. Asia Muhaimin, director of bands. “Now with this generous gift, we can bring in professional musicians for small group, specialized, and individualized instruction for all kids at all levels. It makes for a better, more cohesive band unit as we go into our full band season.”
The performance will be a culminating celebration for the camp students, as the children show their new skills and enjoy refreshments.
