The Most Reverend Michael B. Curry, the 27th Presiding Bishop and Primate of the U.S. Episcopal Church, will visit New Orleans on Nov. 19 and 20. He gained international fame as the African American homilist at the 2018 Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and American Actress Meghan Markel.
Bishop Curry will be the principal consecrator ordaining the first female Bishop in the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana on Saturday, Nov. 19 at Christ Church Cathedral. On Sunday, Nov. 20 his presence will be centered around activities for St. Anna’s Church in Treme, with the Very Reverend William Terry, Rector, serving as his host. The Presiding Bishop will dedicate the new home of Anna’s Place NOLA, the community service ministry of St. Anna’s Church, and then proceed to participate in the church’s Sunday Mass at 10:30 a.m., where he will give his only homily during his visit. The entire worship service will be live streamed on St. Anna’s Facebook page.
Presiding Bishop Curry was installed as the 27th Presiding Bishop and Primate on Nov. 1, 2015 for a nine-year term. He is the U.S. Episcopal Church’s chief pastor and spokesperson. He was first ordained a priest in 1978. He is a descendant of American slaves, and currently resides in North Carolina with his wife; the couple has two adult daughters. He is the author of five books, emphasizing his prophetic leadership in the areas of racial reconciliation, evangelism, and equality with the animating vision and message of the radical, sacrificial love of Jesus of Nazareth.
His schedule for Sunday, Nov. 20 is:
  • 9: 30 a.m. The Presiding Bishop joins the Very Reverend William Terry, Rector of St. Anna’s Episcopal Church for a brief dedication ceremony and tour of Dodwell House, 1519 Esplanade Avenue, the future home of Anna’s Place NOLA.
