University View Academy, the state’s leading provider of high-quality, free public online charter schooling for grades K through 14, will host their high school graduation Saturday, May 27 at The Raising Canes Baton Rouge Civic Center, 275 S River Rd. at 3 p.m. for nearly 200 graduates from every parish in Louisiana.
Superintendent Dr. Lonnie Luce will give the Keynote Address and the Valedictorian Address will be given by Ethan Francois. Awards and presentations of scholarships totally nearly $900,000 will also be handed out. This year’s class has been accepted into universities such as Nicholls State University, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge Community College, Centenary College of Louisiana, LeTourneau University (Texas), Delgado Community College, University of Louisiana Lafayette, Southeastern Louisiana University, Northwestern State University, Louisiana Tech University, Portland State University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of North Carolina Greensboro, Xavier University of Louisiana, Texas Southern University, University of Oregon, University of New Orleans, Neumont University (Utah), Missouri Southern State University, University of Mobile, University of Louisiana at Monroe, Bossier Parish Community College, University of Advancing Technology (Arizona), Mississippi State University, McNeese State University, and Tulane University.

International School of Louisiana to Hold International Day Parades Uptown, Westbank, and Jefferson Campuses will celebrate cultural diversity with traditional second lines around campuses The community is invited to the International Day Parades at all ISL campuses. Students and faculty will wear the colors and traditional clothing of countries from around the world and carry countries’ flags as they second line around campus neighborhood, sharing the International experience and celebration of diversity with the local community with bands, music, and more!
This year-end celebration is a uniquely New Orleans way to experience the essence of the ISL community and its celebration of diversity and all cultures. Students spend the last week of school studying the different nations and cultures of our world blending what they have learned with a traditional New Orleans celebration. The Jewish Federation of Greater New Orleans announced today its selection of Arnie D. Fielkow as the new chief executive officer. Fielkow was selected after a comprehensive national search and will return to New Orleans, where he and his family previously resided from 2000-2011. Fielkow will succeed Federation Executive Director Michael Weil, who is stepping down at the end of September and returning to Israel.

The Foundation for Science and Mathematics Education, the non-profit that provides support for New Orleans Charter Science and Mathematics High School, is a 2017 Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope Semi-finalist, with the chance of receiving a $25,000 grant.
The FDSME Foundation is one of 10 organizations competing for the Jimmie Johnson Foundation/Blue Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope national award, but the only one from Louisiana. Online votes for the top five organizations will determine a $25,000 cash grant, to be used by winners to enhance K-12 public education programs. Each winner also will receive a Blue Bunny Ice Cream party and their logo will be featured on Jimmie Johnson’s race helmet during the NASCAR Cup race on Sunday, August 13th at Michigan International Speedway. Voting takes place from noon, May 5 through noon, May 12. Each person can vote for FSME repeatedly. Visit www.helmetofhope.org to vote. The National Park Service (NPS), which turned 100 years old last year, manages more than 400 national park units--iconic landscapes, historic and cultural sites, trails, military battlegrounds, monuments, and memorials--throughout the country. As a result of aging facilities, strain on resources caused by increased visitation and unreliable funding, NPS has been unable to keep pace with park infrastructure repairs. Based on 2015 data, the agency estimates it would cost nearly $12 billion if it were to fix all of the items on its deferred maintenance list. Senator Warner (D-VA) has introduced bipartisan legislation, the National Park Service Legacy Act, that would provide dedicated annual federal funding to national park deferred maintenance needs, ensuring that parks continue to preserve our nation’s heritage and recreation opportunities, and that local communities who depend on park visitors for revenue will continue to flourish.
