Hynes Charter School, in partnership with the University of New Orleans (UNO), announced today that they will open a new school for the 2019-20 school year. The name of the school will be Hynes Charter School-UNO.
Hynes Charter School-UNO will initially open with approximately 75 Kindergarten students and eventually grow to a full Kindergarten-8thgrade charter school focused on a well-rounded, core curriculum with a science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) focus. The school will also offer a French Immersion program. Hynes Charter School-UNO will replicate the current Hynes curriculum, core values, and framework.

Edward Hynes Charter Elementary School will hold Open House Tours for parents and prospective students on Thursday, December 7, 8:30am-10:30am at 990 Harrison Ave. in the gym of its Lakeview Campus.
Edward Hynes Charter Elementary School serves children in Pre-K gifted and Kindergarten through 8th Grade. Parents and guardians of prospective students are invited to attend and learn more about Hynes, tour the school and meet teachers and staff. Hynes Charter School, which hopes to expand its elementary program to a new site on the UNO campus, and Audubon Charter Schools, which will open a new Montessori French Immersion program in Gentilly next year, are joining other Greater New Orleans Collaborative Charter Schools (GNOCCS) in the open enrollment ENROLL NOLA program offered by the New Orleans Public School System, announced GNOCCS Director Ken Ducote.

Hynes Charter School will host a dedication of its new Memory Garden, featuring three nursery-school mosaics saved from the original school site which was constructed in 1952. The tiles adorned the former school building’s walkway and were saved from demolition by efforts from the neighboring community. To many, preserving the tiles represents the resilience and renewal of the Lakeview community and the high-performing charter. The garden will also be dedicated in memory of a retired Hynes teacher who lost her battle with an illness earlier this year.
