The race for Louisiana Attorney General is heating up as Democrats are rallying behind the candidacy of Geraldine “Geri” Broussard Baloney. Fresh on the heels of the State Democratic Party’s endorsement comes news that former U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu and former Congressman Cleo Fields are supporting Ms. Broussard Baloney as well. At a recent event in Baton Rouge, Ms. Broussard Baloney had the opportunity meet with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In response to Ms. Broussard Baloney’s candidacy and aspirations for the office of Louisiana Attorney General, Secretary Clinton emphatically said, “Great, let’s run together!” Geri Broussard Baloney is poised to become the Louisiana’s first African American and first female Attorney General. She is the leading Democrat in a race that includes Republicans Buddy Caldwell and Jeff Landry. “I can truly say I’ll be unlike any Attorney General voters have ever seen before,” she laughs.
Ms. Broussard Baloney was raised to respect the law and help those in need, a passion that led her to pursue public service. She is a cum laude graduate of Southern University, an honors graduate of Loyola Law School, and today leads her own successful law firm. During her 20-year legal career, Ms. Broussard has prosecuted criminal and civil cases. She clerked in St. John the Baptist Parish Court. She is a respected attorney who brings an even temperament and intellectual savvy to the job before her. “I believe I have the experience and commitment to become our state ’s first line of defense against lawlessness, abuse, injustice and intolerance, ” said Ms. Broussard Baloney. Governor Kathleen Blanco relied on Geri ’s legal expertise when appointing her as a Commissioner on the Pontchartrain Levee Board, where she became chair of the legal and legislative committee. St. John the Baptist Parish President recognized Geri ’s integrity and appointed her to chair her Government Ethics Committee. “I am committed to changing the way the Attorney General’s office is operated,” said Ms. Broussard Baloney. “This office should have protected people’s access to affordable healthcare, not impeded it. This office should have represented the people’s interests in the Gulf Oil Disaster, not given away that responsibility to private law firms and political contributors. “I’m coming from outside the system, but that is what it will take to make this office work for the people.” Ms. Broussard Baloney said her priority is giving Louisiana citizens the best legal representation possible, not using the Attorney General ’s office for political favors and gain. “We need to balance the scales of justice in Louisiana for all people. We need a firm but fair voice for all our people, ” she said. Attorney Geri Broussard Baloney (D) qualified for the Attorney General’s race today in Baton Rouge.
Ms. Broussard Baloney remarked, "I am committed to changing the way this public office is operated. I am not a part of this state’s traditional political system, so I will have the ability to truly serve the people of Louisiana. That is why I will be unlike any Attorney General this state has ever seen." Ms. Broussard Baloney is an entrepreneur and lawyer. She has extensive experience in governmental affairs, complex litigation and contracts. She is an honor graduate of both Southern University at New Orleans, with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science, and Loyola University School of Law, graduating with Moot Court Honors upon receiving a Juris Doctorate and Certificate in International Law. Her government experience includes working as a legislative aide to the New Orleans City Council and as Administrator of the City’s Board of Zoning Adjustment.
