Lusher Charter School has received Louisiana’s Highest Award from the National Council of Teachers of English for its 2014 Literary Magazine, Street. The award recognizes excellence in student literary magazines.
Participants in Lusher’s Creative Writing Program contributed to the magazine. Lusher students also contributed artwork, photographs and graphic design. Lusher’s literary magazine Street’s Faculty Advisor was Brad Richard and Student Editors were Peyton Brunet and Helene Lovett.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND! FIX THE CZO Public Meeting #2 6 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2015 Holy Angels, 3500 St. Claude Avenue What: Due to public demand, The Riverfront Alliance will host a second FIX THE CZO Public Meeting on needed changes to the City of New Orleans Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance (CZO). Core issues will be presented and an open discussion will follow. All City Council Members have been invited to participate and respond to the public.
Why: Mutual concerns with the draft CZO have unified several neighborhood organizations, speaking for the thousands of residents who will be negatively affected by proposed zoning. Changes to the draft CZO are necessary, before it has the force of law, to protect fragile neighborhoods and citizens citywide from harmful, irreversible land use policies. The Size Matters campaign continues as part of this initiative. The Young Audiences Charter School at Kate Middleton invites prospective students along with their families to attend an open house session to learn more about the school on Thursday, January 29 at 6:30 pm or Saturday, January 31 at 10am. The sessions will be held at Young Audiences Charter School, 1407 Virgil Street in Gretna.

LSU All-American and Atlanta Hawks great Rudy Macklin, who today works for the State of Louisiana helping young people live healthier lives - Former New Orleans Jazz standout Aaron James, who starred at Walter L. Cohen High School in New Orleans before playing, coaching and serving as Athletic Director at Grambling University. New Orleans native Donald Royal, who starred at St. Augustine, led the University of Notre Dame and crashed boards alongside Shaquille O’Neal for the Orlando Magic before coming home to lead the New Orleans Recreation Department. YALA to host free Prof. Dev. Series: Director of Lincoln Center Institute to speak Jan. 261/14/2015 On Monday, January 26, 2pm, at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, 4521 Saint Charles Ave., Young Audiences of Louisiana and Sacred Heart will host a Professional Development Series for Community Arts Educators, beginning with an hour with Russel Granet, Executive Director of the Lincoln Center Institute. The public is invited to join Russel Granet, distinguished Artist, Educator, and International Consultant, for a Keynote Speech and Q & A Session.
