TO PARENTS IN ORLEANS PARISH: Limited number of spaces still available at K-8 charter school in east New Orleans

Einstein Charter, an open admissions, top-performing charter school expanding its campus to a second location in the Michoud area for the 2013-2014 year.

Chief Executive Officer Shawn Toranto of the Einstein Charter Elementary and Extension Schools in east New Orleans says there are still more than 100 seats available in her open admissions, top performing K-8 charter school which has a math and science focus.

Parents are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible. Applications are available at the school’s website.

The “top gains” and “top performing” school, so designated by the Louisiana Department of Education and Orleans Parish Public School System respectively, was awarded a $1 million grant to take over the Intercultural Charter School Campus at 5316 Michoud Blvd. The school is now known as Einstein Extension.

“We’re vested in east New Orleans and believe our children are deserving of a competitive education,” said Ms. Toranto.

In order for students to reach their full potential, Einstein addresses students' academic, emotional, and medical needs. Special education services, before/after care, English as Second Language (ESL), programs in the gifted and talented arts, a nurse, a social worker, and extra curricular activities are all part of the school’s expanded focus.

The original campus is still located at 5100 Cannes St. in the Village de L’est area. Lela Stewart is Principal of Einstein Charter; Gwendalyn Lewis is Principal of Einstein Extension.

“The Einstein community is committed to helping our entire student community have the best educational experience for the 2013-2104 academic year, by connecting with opportunities provided by teachers, school leaders and parents,” said Ms. Toranto.

Einstein believes parents are partners in their children's success.
