Audubon Charter School announced today that the school has been selected as a recipient of a Healthy Communities Grant by Keep Louisiana Beautiful, the State’s premier anti-litter and community improvement organization.

The grant, in the amount of $2005, will support Audubon’s recycling and waste reduction efforts— including the purchase and installation of recycling bins, recycling instructional signage, compost bins, and portable water coolers.  Students, staff and faculty will be educated about the benefits of recycling and how to recycle, and students will be encouraged to bring environmentally friendly, reusable water bottles that can be refilled rather than plastic water bottles.

“The Healthy Communities Grant will enable Audubon’s staff, faculty and students to
significantly reduce the amount of waste produced at the school and teach them to recycle and reduce waste at home,” says Janice Dupuy, Audubon’s Principal and CEO. “We are very grateful for the support of KLB.”   Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) is a volunteer-based service organization dedicated to a litter free Louisiana.

Each year, KLB awards competitive Healthy Communities Grants to organizations across the State as part of its efforts to "promote personal, corporate, and community responsibility for a clean and beautiful Louisiana."
Last year over 23,000 people volunteered more than 107,000 hours with KLB’s affiliates.

These volunteers picked up 670,000 lbs. of roadway and waterway litter in an effort to keep our state beautiful.

Audubon Charter School is a top performing New Orleans public school that serves students in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade.  Audubon’s mission is to foster a culturally rich and academically rigorous program using the French and Montessori curriculum and a comprehensive arts curriculum.

Students in Audubon’s Montessori program are instructed by specially trained teachers who direct self-motivated learning and exploration based on each child’s individual development. The French program is accredited by the French Ministry of Education, and classes, including math, science and social studies, are taught in French by native French-speaking teachers.
