Audubon Schools to Open New School in Gentilly

The A-rated Audubon Charter School will open a new school, Audubon Gentilly, in Fall 2018. Located at the former Gentilly Terrace Elementary Campus, 4721 Painters St. in Gentilly, Audubon Gentilly will combine the current Audubon Charter School’s Montessori and French immersion curricula into a new Montessori French Immersion model.
The Audubon expansion is approved by the Orleans Parish School Board as a replication program with open admissions, prioritizing students residing in OPSB Catchment Zone #5, which includes the Gentilly and Lakeview areas.

“We are pleased and excited that we will be able to bring the unique Audubon experience to another great neighborhood in New Orleans,” said CEO Latoye Brown. “The demand for Audubon’s programs far exceeds the capacity of our current Uptown campuses. We had demonstrated need for an expanded program in the area.”

Audubon Gentilly will add one grade level per year until reaching maximum capacity by 2025 with students in grades Pre-K(3) – 8. The Montessori French Language Immersion Model will be the only program of its kind in the State of Louisiana. Students will receive instruction from both a Montessori Lead Teacher and a French speaking Co-Teacher with materials in both English and French.

“This instructional model is based on the philosophies, practices, and successes of our current model that has proven to be effective over the 37-year history of the current Audubon Charter School,” said CEO Brown.
Audubon’s existing French School is fully accredited through the Agency for French Education Abroad (AEFE) and is also designated by the Louisiana State Department of Education as a Certified World Languages Site. The Montessori program is an Associate Member of the American Montessori Society, and is the only public Montessori program in New Orleans that extends beyond the Kindergarten level.

Audubon is grateful to the Charter School Growth Fund, Walton Family Foundation, and W.K. Kellogg Foundation for their commitment to Audubon Schools and investment in this new, one-of-a-kind school.

Audubon Gentilly will host a Recruitment Day on Saturday, November 18 from 11am-3pm at Milne Park, 2400 Filmore Ave. The day will feature family friendly activities, food, and the opportunity to experience a Montessori French Language classroom activity through live demonstrations.

Interested parents can enroll now at enrollnola.org.  Currently enrolling grades PreK(3)-2nd. Visit www.auduboncharter.com or contact [email protected] for more information.
