NBA All Star Week at Young Audiences Charter School: Volunteers from Behind the Bench, the National Basketball Wives Association, to visit Young Audiences Charter School on Thursday, Feb. 13 Volunteers from BTB, Chevron and wives of the New Orleans Pelicans players to paint mural in school gym; YACS Creative Learners to perform WHAT: As part of the NBA All Star Week, volunteers from the Behind the Bench, Chevron and wives of the New Orleans Pelicans players will visit Young Audiences Charter School to help students paint a mural in the gym as part of their “Community Day.” WHEN: Thursday, February 13, 1-3pm Schedule below. 1:00 | National Basketball Wives Association and members arrive with representatives from Chevron 1:00 - 1:10 | Welcome in Parent Engagement Center 1:10 – 2:30 | Forty NBWA and Chevron volunteers will split into groups to work on a gym mural with artist Lamar Pierre and YACS Creative Learners and tour the school 2:30 - 2:40 | Mural “unveiling,” and photos 2:40 - 3:00 | Performance by the Young Audiences Charter School Creative Learners with singing, dancing and drum corps WHERE: Young Audiences Charter School, 1407 Virgil St., Gretna, LA WHY: Behind the Bench, The National Basketball Wives Association, has chosen Young Audiences Charter School to visit as part of their Community Day, a part of the NBA All-Star Week. The volunteers from the organization, wives of New Orleans Pelicans players, and Chevron volunteers will visit the school to paint a mural in the gym with students and artist Jamar Pierre, tour the school and see a singing, dancing and drum performance by the talented Young Audiences Charter School Creative Learners.
On Friday, February 14, 11:30am, Behind the Bench will hold their annual “Touching a Life Luncheon” to benefit Young Audiences of Louisiana at the Harrah’s Casino Theatre (228 Poydras Street, New Orleans, LA 70130). The event is sold out and will be hosted by former NFLer and current Fox Sports 1 analyst Ephraim Salaam and 2-time Gold Olympic medalist Swin Cash. The event will honor Dynamic Duos: 15 time NBA All Star Shaquille O’Neal and his mother Lucille O’Neal; 4 time Pro Bowler NFL Detroit Lions WR Calvin Johnson Jr. and his mother Dr. Arica Johnson; and owners of the NFL New Orleans Saints and NBA New Orleans Pelicans, Mr. & Mrs. Tom and Gayle Benson.
