Benjamin Franklin High School Offers AP Calculus BC Online

Do you know a student who might benefit from taking AP Calculus BC but doesn't have the course offered at their school? Advanced Placement (AP) Calculus BC is a full-year, university-level course. It covers more than the "AB" version and may be appropriate for very capable math students. Many schools are not able to offer "BC" due to limited demand. Now students can take a class they need online with a state-approved course provider and have the credit applied to their transcript. These courses are offered through the Louisiana Supplemental Course Academy, SCA (formerly "Course Choice").

Ben Franklin High School is offering AP Calculus BC online to students in Louisiana as part of the SCA. Franklin math teacher Michael Masterson, who has extensive experience teaching calculus and working with students online, teaches the course. He also teaches the regular face-to-face AP Calculus BC class at Ben Franklin. Online calculus students will have regular opportunities to meet with him face-to-face at Ben Franklin on Saturdays. The meetings are optional and the course may be taken completely online.  

This course is available at no cost for Louisiana public and charter school students, thanks to $7.5 million allocated by the legislature through the SCA. Funds are allocated to schools on a per-pupil basis and unused funds will be given to other schools. Students at private schools are welcome to take the course but must pay for it.
