The 14 schools of the Eastbank Collaborative of Charter Schools (ECCS) celebrate the 10 th Anniversary of educators who returned to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to re-open their schools as charters between 2005 and 2006. These leaders overcame extraordinary obstacles, pioneering the charter movement in New Orleans and paving the way for an educational renovation of the public school system.

A special report by Researcher Debra Vaughan documents the commitment of school communities to re-open their schools with a new governance model after the 2005 storms. The report reviews the impact these charter schools have in today’s public education landscape.
