The 14 schools of the Eastbank Collaborative of Charter Schools (ECCS) celebrate the 10 th Anniversary of educators who returned to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina to re-open their schools as charters between 2005 and 2006. These leaders overcame extraordinary obstacles, pioneering the charter movement in New Orleans and paving the way for an educational renovation of the public school system. WHEN: Friday, August 21, 11:30am WHERE: Commander’s Palace, 1403 Washington Ave. in Uptown NOLA WHY: A special report by Researcher Debra Vaughan documents the commitment of school communities to re-open their schools with a new governance model after the 2005 storms. The report reviews the impact these charter schools have in today’s public education landscape. Eleven schools of Eastbank Collaborative of Charter Schools will be present and available for interviews: Audubon Charter School, Benjamin Franklin High School, Hynes Charter School, International High School of New Orleans, International School of Louisiana, Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy, Lake Forest Elementary Charter, Lusher Charter School, Robert Russa Moton Charter School, New Orleans Charter Science and Math High School and Warren Easton Charter High School.
