Students across Einstein Charter Schools will participate in the Special Olympics Louisiana Unified Field Day this Friday, February 2nd. The event is designed to unite students with and without intellectual disabilities in athletic competition. An equal number of Special Olympics Louisiana athletes (individuals with intellectual disabilities) and partners (student without intellectual disabilities) will join teams to participate in basketball, bocce, horseshoes and other sports activities. Students will also take the R-Word Pledge, a national initiative to stop using the word “retarded” in everyday speech. “Einstein Charter Schools aim to be a place where no student is excluded because of a disability,” says Director of Special Education and Related Services Donna Reno. “Hosting the Unified Field Day offers our students the opportunity to be leaders and supports our climate of inclusion and acceptance for all.” Einstein Charter Schools joined Special Olympics Louisiana as a Unified Champion School in 2017.
