Mathes holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Accounting from the University of New Orleans, an undergraduate degree in Computer Information Systems from Loyola University New Orleans and he is a Certified Public Accountant.
Since 2017 Mathes has served as Vice President for Finance & Administration at Loyola University New Orleans. He began his career with Arthur Andersen & Co. as a staff auditor before serving as Director of Internal Auditing at Loyola from 1982 to 2000. From 2000 to 2007 he served as Chief Administrative Officer for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and later was Vice President for Finance and Administration at Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge.
Hynes Charter School-Lakeview is a consistently high-performing, open admissions, A-rated school. The Louisiana Department of Education recognized Hynes as a “Top Gains” School and it was named to the state’s “Excellence Honor Roll” for early childhood education. For the 2019-20 school year, Hynes Charter School-UNO will enroll Kindergarten students, and will add at least one grade each year until maximizing enrollment in grades Kindergarten-8thwith the potential to serve students in early education. Hynes Charter School offers a challenging academic curriculum that includes a progressive literacy program, gifted and talented courses, a partnership with UNO, and classes in instrumental music, vocal music, library, theater and physical education. Art and socio-emotional learning are integrated throughout the curriculum. In addition, Hynes offers a French Immersion program for grades Kindergarten-5th that instructs students in Math, Science, and Social Studies using the French language in an applied manner. Students enrolled in traditional classes are also enrolled in French enrichment classes.
