Hynes Charter Schools has appointed Leon Mathes as its new Chief Financial Officer. Hynes Charter Schools operates a Lakeview Campus at 990 Harrison Ave. and a new Hynes Charter School at UNO will open in Fall 2019 in a temporary location at 6101 Chatham Dr. Hynes is the highest demand, non-selective admissions elementary school in Orleans Parish. “We are thrilled to have Mr. Mathes as our new CFO,” said Michelle Douglas, Hynes Charter Schools CEO. “His qualifications and experience as a CPA and financial administrator are par none. We are fortunate to have him on board, especially during our replication process.”
Mathes holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in Accounting from the University of New Orleans, an undergraduate degree in Computer Information Systems from Loyola University New Orleans and he is a Certified Public Accountant. Since 2017 Mathes has served as Vice President for Finance & Administration at Loyola University New Orleans. He began his career with Arthur Andersen & Co. as a staff auditor before serving as Director of Internal Auditing at Loyola from 1982 to 2000. From 2000 to 2007 he served as Chief Administrative Officer for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and later was Vice President for Finance and Administration at Our Lady of the Lake College in Baton Rouge. Hynes Charter School-Lakeview is a consistently high-performing, open admissions, A-rated school. The Louisiana Department of Education recognized Hynes as a “Top Gains” School and it was named to the state’s “Excellence Honor Roll” for early childhood education. Hynes remains accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
