International School of Louisiana (ISL) is the only non-high school in Orleans Parish to earn the state’s Top Gains designation due to its School Performance Scores (SPS) growth.

An “A” rated school, ISL has grown into one of the largest K-8 schools in the city, with 1,400 students across three campuses.

“We are very proud of earning the state’s Top Gains designation again this year,” said Melanie Tennyson, ISL Head of School/CEO. “It is through the hard and vigorous work of our school leaders, faculty, staff, and students that we continue to achieve success at this level.”

The 2016-17 Top Gains School designation was given to A rated schools that achieved 5 points or more of growth in SPS. ISL is the only A school in the city of New Orleans to receive the designation. “Though already an A-rated school, ISL leaders and teachers focus on continuous improvement and constant learning,” said Madeline Brown, Executive Director of ANet Louisiana. “As an example of their commitment to push themselves to learn and grow, ISL-Dixon Principal Gigi Camey and seven ISL teachers and leaders recently participated in our Writing in Response to Reading PD.”

The International School of Louisiana is the only tuition-free, multi-language immersion school in Louisiana. With its emphasis on international awareness, the celebration of diversity and community responsibility, ISL's unique curriculum strengthens basic academic skills as it prepares students for success in today's worldwide marketplace. Dedicated to cultural diversity and global awareness, ISL (grades K-8) is the only multi-language immersion school chartered by the State of Louisiana. Consistently a high-performing school.  ISL is a French and Spanish language immersion school that was named Charter School of the Year, a Certified World Language School, and a Top Gains School; it received the 2014 School Award for Exemplary Education of Young Men of Color from COSEBOC. From their first day of school, students are taught core academic subjects in either French or Spanish by native speaking teachers. ISL is dedicated to providing all of its students with a unique and high-quality education and to help young people develop, not only as students but also as community leaders and global citizens.
