ISL Teacher to unveil his special sculpture The Pelican

WHAT: In celebration of coastal awareness, International School of Louisiana art teacher Mario Padilla will be unveiling his sculpture ‘The Pelican’ at the school’s Bunche Campus.

WHY: This project was the result of a grant awarded to Padilla so that he could develop his vision with help of our students.  The sculpture is a collaboration of Padilla and the artists he teaches on a daily basis.  

The project is apart of the Fresh Paths public artworks initiative of YA/YA. Fresh Paths is a project to encourage mentorship and building hope in the face of ecological challenges like the BP oil spill.  

“YA/YA is an amazing organization that I am very proud to collaborate with,” said Padilla. “They have decades of experience with artist development and mentorship for youth. “
