Audubon Charter School Principal/CEO Janice Dupuy is retiring after 10 years at the school and 38 years as an educator in Orleans Parish. Her retirement goes into effect September 30. Assistant Principal Latoye Brown will take over as Interim CEO/Principal for Audubon Charter School effective October 1, 2015. A permanent replacement will be selected before the end of this school year. “My ten years at Audubon have been the most fulfilling of my long career and it is with bittersweet emotion that I have made this decision, said Dupuy. “I consider the Audubon Charter School staff, Board, administrators, faculty, and students to be my extended family. This was not an easy decision to make but after nearly thirty-eight years as an educator, I feel it is time to move on and concentrate on my family. I leave the school in good hands with Ms. Brown.” Dupuy leaves Audubon as an “A” ranked, “Top Gains” school, confident that Audubon has reached the many goals set for the school. “The goals to keep the Montessori and French programs united and to grow the middle school have been achieved. Audubon has more than doubled in size with over 800 students and more than 100 faculty and staff members today. We have expanded onto two separate campuses and increased academic offerings. Our eighth grade graduating class and the school’s French program have tripled in size since 2006,” said Dupuy. During Dupuy’s tenure, the school has also added talented in music to its ever-growing talented in visual arts and theatre programs. The academically gifted program continues to grow each year and Audubon has expanded its Chinese Mandarin programs and French as a second language program. The Academic Games and Debate teams have won national and state competitions and Audubon has award-winning chess, robotics, and Metro League sports teams. Audubon is an Associate Member of the American Montessori Society, accredited by the French Ministry of Education and member of AEFE (Agency for French Teaching in America). "Ms. Janice has been an iconic guiding force for 10 years at Audubon Charter. Her tireless work at keeping two programs running smoothly and assembling a first class staff accounts for Audubon's ongoing stellar academic achievement. She will be greatly missed by the Audubon Charter community, " said Rev. Cornelius Tilton, Audubon Board Chair. Audubon appointed current Lower Campus Assistant, Principal Latoye Brown, the interim CEO/Principal. Ms. Brown started her career as a teacher at Singleton Charter School and A.P. Tureaud. At Tureaud, she also served as a Math Coach, Small Learning Community Leader and Master Teacher.
