Criminal Court Judge Tracey Flemings-Davillier announced today that she will be a candidate for the FOURTH CIRCUIT COURT OF APPEAL to fill the unexpired term of the seat that was held by Judge Paul Bonin.  The Court of Appeal hears criminal and civil cases and its current makeup has only 2 out of 11 judges with any criminal court experience.

Judge Flemings-Davillier has extensive legal experience in criminal, civil and juvenile law, affording her one of the most diverse and comprehensive legal backgrounds on the judiciary.  After graduating from Loyola University School of Law, she honed her legal skills as an attorney practicing civil law at Phelps Dunbar LLP for 14 years, wherein she also represented children in need of care in Juvenile Court on a pro bono basis.  Judge Flemings-Davillier presided on the Juvenile Court bench for several years and quickly rose to serve as Deputy Chief Judge, before joining the Criminal Court bench.  Judge Flemings-Davillier brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong work ethic to the Court of Appeal, Fourth Circuit.  She is known for her keen understanding and analysis of the law and ability to manage her Court docket in a professional manner, with a sound judicial temperament.
Upon taking the Criminal Court bench in January 2013, Judge Flemings-Davillier tackled an extensive existing court docket totaling almost 400 cases, including a significant number of highly complex felony cases.  While being allotted more than 300 new cases that same year and every year thereafter, she resolved a high volume of cases on a yearly basis, ultimately resulting in resolution of the largest number of cases closed amongst all 12 Sections of Criminal Court by the end of 2016.  Impressively, Judge Flemings-Davillier also plays an integral role in the Court’s operations and the management of the Court’s intervention services.  She has had the energy and knowledge to take on a tough, massive Criminal Court docket and the leadership skills to make a significant impact on the Court.  Her impressive background, vitality for hard work and passion to serve will be a strong asset on the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal.

In making this important decision regarding her candidacy, Judge Flemings-Davillier stated:

"I remain extremely honored to serve the Citizens of New Orleans.  When I took on the awesome task of presiding as Judge in Criminal District Court and managing the Section B. docket, I rolled up my sleeves and went to work, resolving a high volume of cases on a yearly basis, while at the same time ensuring the safety and welfare of victims and the citizens of New Orleans.  I will utilize my knowledge and experience in civil, juvenile and criminal law to make good sound decisions on the Appellate Court bench and I will continue to serve the citizens through various community programs.  I am grateful for this opportunity.”
