WWOZ 90.7 FM is thrilled to host an open community forum this Thursday June 13 from 6-8pm on Music Education in New Orleans. The meeting will be held at the Concert Hall at Holy Angels Center at 3500 St. Claude (parking on St. Claude and Gallier). Our co-facilitators will be Amy Wilson and Daryl Dabon Jarvis. This is not a panel discussion. We at WWOZ want to hear from music educators, music students, parents and other community stakeholders about what's going on with music education in New Orleans right now - What's working? What's not? Are there things that we can do to make improvements? We hope that you will have the opportunity to meet and network with other concerned stakeholders, talk about your program(s), voice your concerns and tell WWOZ about ways that we can better serve the community in our shared effort to pass on New Orleans musical traditions to the next generation.
This is part of a community journalism called Insight New Orleans, which is a partnership between WWOZ and The Lens as part of the Public Insight Network (PIN). WWOZ hopes to follow up with issues that come up in the meeting for further media coverage. If you can't make it to the meeting then you can still participate by sharing your thoughts and concerns with us in our online Music Education Survey. We also want to be sure that all of you know about WWOZ's ongoing program Cuttin' Class where school bands come into our studios for live on-air performances every month. Please excuse this mass email but since this event is coming up soon I needed to get the information out as quickly as possible. I will following up with each of you with individual emails over the next couple of days. On behalf of everyone at WWOZ, I hope to see you or someone from your program/institute on Thursday.
