Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (Discovery) is growing their current music program and is raising money to buy instruments, music, and basic equipment for orchestra and band classes. Students are collecting pairs of gently worn, used or new shoes to support micro-enterprise vendors in developing nations. Micro-enterprises are small businesses in developing nations that are typically operated by one person or family and friends. The students' goal is to collect 300 bags of shoes (25 pairs a bag). Discovery will be collecting shoes through October 31 at the main campus at 2504 Maine Ave. in Metairie between 8am and 3pm and at Michon Music at 3200 Severn Ave, Suite 118 in Metairie. “We are so proud of our students and their efforts to raise money for instruments for our music program,” said Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy Head of School Patty Glaser. “Not only will the money collected help us buy new instruments, but it will benefit small businesses in developing nations. Discovery students want to make a difference in their community and in giving service to communities across the globe."
