School Culture Expert Jeffery Duncan-Andrade to Speak at 6th Annual LAPCS Conference

Registration now open for “Adjusting the Sails: Staying on Course for Success”
The Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools (LAPCS) invites educators, business leaders, parents, policy makers and students to register now for its Sixth Annual Conference, Adjusting the Sails: Staying on Course for Success. The conference will be held Friday, September 13, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Baton Rouge, with a ‘Meet and Greet’ reception the preceding evening at Juban’s from 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013.
LAPCS Director Caroline Roemer Shirley said over the last eight years, Louisiana has led the way and received national recognition for the impact of charter schools in driving state academic gains, choice, and accountability.

"Adjusting the Sails hearkens educational stakeholders not to rest on the success of the current charter school movement in Louisiana, but to confront the ever-changing challenges that we face as we try to create great public schools and to evaluate the role of charters as an established fixture in the broad scope of improving educational opportunity for all students in our state," said Ms. Roemer Shirley.

This year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Jeffrey Duncan-Andrade, draws from his 20 years as an urban educator to explore the concept of hope as essential for nurturing youth.

"What are the material conditions that effect urban youth before they even step foot in our schools?  What does it mean to develop educational environments that are relevant and responsive to these conditions?  How should these educational spaces define success for students and educators? These are the types of questions Dr. Duncan-Andrade will address, with a focus on developing educators that are better equipped to create educational environments that remove inequalities," said Ms. Shirley Roemer.

Registration is $350 for members, $375 for non-members, with five-ticket bundle discounts. Click here to register now!

The LAPCS is also still offering opportunities for sponsors and exhibitors at this year’s conference. Click here to become a sponsor or exhibitor!

Attendees will have the opportunity to connect with peers from across the state who are working to create excellent schools, learn innovative strategies for taking organizations and teams to the next level, and recharge for the academic year ahead, said Ms. Roemer Shirley.

"This year’s conference will be better than ever because our schools are better than ever, and prepared to continue to make the adjustments needed to excel," she said.

LAPCS is the primary statewide membership association for Louisiana public charter schools dedicated to increasing student achievement by supporting, promoting, and advocating for the quality charter school movement.
