Lusher Charter School will host its "Back to the Block" 2014 Block Party tomorrow, October 17 from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm. The block party will be on Lusher's Freret St. campus on 5624 Freret St, New Orleans, LA. The party will feature art exhibits, special performances, games, food trucks, music, and much more fun for the entire Lusher family and community of New Orleans!
At the event, Lusher will officially receive it's designation as a 2014-2016 Exemplary School by Arts Schools Network, the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools . Created to highlight a school’s commitment to excellence, this designation is presented to an Arts Schools Network member school in recognition of its efforts to evaluate strategically its purpose, operations, and educational programs. This honor signifies that Lusher Charter School has successfully completed a self-evaluation in the following areas: strengths, areas for improvement, consistency with school-wide or program purposes, aspirations, and future challenges. The school will also honor senior Madeleine LeCesne, who was among five students nationwide appointed as a 2014 National Student Poet at the White House by First Lady Michelle Obama this past month, the country’s highest honor for young poets. Madeleine, along with the other four recipients, was chosen from over 13,000 entries for the distinction. LeCesne is earning a Certificate of Artistry from Lusher studying Creative Writing and will travel the country this next year as an official literary ambassador. Attendees on hand will also be able to enjoy a sneak preview of this year's school musical Pippin. Staff members will be on hand to sell advance tickets to the musical. Come and celebrate Lusher Charter School students in dance, music, theatre, musical theatre, creative writing, visual arts, media arts, and stage craft!
