About Wess Anderson:
Alto saxophonist Wessell "Warmdaddy" Anderson grew up in the tough Bedford Stuyvesent and Crown Heights neighborhoods of Brooklyn, NY playing jazz. Anderson later studied at Harlem's famed Jazzmobile workshops with the likes of Frank Wess, Charles Davis, and Frank Foster. Here Anderson met Wynton and Branford Marsalis and at Branford's urging, Anderson soon departed New York to study with famed clarinetist Alvin Batiste in Baton Rouge. Anderson has toured with the Wynton Marsalis Septet and helped to make some of the most defining music of the late-'80s and early-'90s jazz revival. Anderson is presently the first string alto saxist with Marsalis' Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Anderson's 1994 debut album, Warmdaddy In the Garden of Swing, featured Anderson playing a set of all original compositions with big-name sidemen like pianist Eric Reed and bassist Ben Wolfe. 1998's Live at the Village Vanguard found him in top form with his own hand-picked band of powerhouse young players, including trumpeter Irvin Mayfield, bassist Steve Kirby, pianist Xavier Davis, and drummer Jaz Sawyer. In 2009 Wessell Anderson released the critically acclaimed album " Warm It Up, Warmdaddy!". In 2013, Wess Anderson released "Warmdaddy plays Ball", featuring the music of Cannonball Adderly. Most recently, his next CD is scheduled to debut on April 30, 2017 at the New Orleans Jazz &Heritage Festival.
