State's Top Virtual K-12 School Adds New Leaders

University View Academy, Louisiana's highest performing public online charter school, announces new academic leadership to position the school for growth in the coming 2017-18 school year, said Superintendent Lonnie Luce.
Dr. Shana Corvers becomes the Interim High School Principal, bringing her 18 years of online teaching and 13 years of administration experience to the position. She received her Doctorate of Education Research at LSU in 1995 and her Masters in Education Psychology at Tulane University in 1991. Dr. Corvers was honored as Innovator of the Year twice from the League of Innovations in Community Colleges for designing teacher assessment models. She's also worked in Accountability and Assessment at the Louisiana Department of Education as well as being part of the Executive Administration at Baton Rouge Community College. 
     
Shuanessy Matthews, a seven-year school leader veteran with UViewAcademy, formerly Louisiana Connections Academy, will be Middle School Principal. Ms. Matthews has 10 years of classroom experience in all K-12 levels. She has an Masters in Education Leadership and a Bachelors in Education. 
     
Mandy Lacerate is the new Director of Early College and Workforce Development, whereby she will lead the new Early College K-14 program at UView, which allows a student to earn a 2-year Associate's Degree by the time of high school graduation, to pursue a skilled job or transfer all credits to a Louisiana 4-year university.  Ms. Lecerte has a Masters in Public Administration from LSU and previously was Director of Dual Enrollment at BRCC. Ms. LeCerte's undergraduate degree is in education and she began her career as a high school English teacher. 
     
Superintendent Luce said, "The changes add strength to our school leadership as we orient students toward their best future and help them expand their ability to get a quality education or job after graduation."   

The changes in principals will take place effective immediately May 28.

ABOUT DR. LONNIE LUCE
Dr. Lonnie Luce, named Superintendent in 2016, is recognized as one of the top public education leaders in Louisiana, having served as Superintendent of St. James Parish public schools for nine years and recognized as Louisiana State Superintendent of the Year (2014). He is an Army Veteran who served in Afghanistan and continues to serve in the rank of Colonel.
