BACKGROUND: The International High School of New Orleans is Louisiana’s only open enrollment public school to offer French and Spanish immersion programs. The world language program at IHS includes Spanish, French, Mandarin, Vietnamese and Arabic courses. A full college preparatory curriculum is complemented by an Authorized International Baccalaureate Programme and Bard Dual Enrollment courses. An IB Diploma demonstrates student completion of a rigorous two-year academic program. IHS offers a full free and reduced breakfast and lunch program to all qualified students. Raymond Hinz, the new Cultural Attaché in the French Consulate of New Orleans is in charge of academic projects/exchanges with Louisiana universities and all state French immersion, education and culture programs coordinated with the French nation. Beyond France, the French Consulate is also the diplomatic representative for all European Union citizens in Louisiana. Mr. Hinz is meeting with a variety of Louisiana partners in the educational field and wants to specifically tour the IB program at ISHNO, the only French immersion high school in the state.
