University View Academy one of the top five high schools with improved student pass rates in Advanced Placement exams Dr. Lonnie Luce, University View Academy Superintendent, applauded high school students in his 2300-seat K-12 public online charter for having one of the state’s five highest growth rates passing the Advanced Placement exams required to earn college credits while in high school. University View Academy logged one of the top five growth rates in the state between 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 school years among students successfully passing the AP exams in various subjects such as math, science and English. A student must score a 3, 4 or 5 to earn college credit in any Louisiana higher education institution and be eligible to “test out” of entry level college courses as they pursue advanced degrees. University View students taking the AP exams had a 20 percent pass rate increase between the two comparative years, while the state pass rate increase for the same time period was 10 percent. The highest rate of score increase was 25.3 percent. Schools with higher pass improvement rates are West Monroe High, Magnet Academy for Cultural Arts, David Thibodaux STEM Magnet, and West Ouachita High. For the last year reported, 60 percent of University View Academy’s test takers passed their AP exam. The Louisiana Department of Education released an analysis of all high schools taking the AP exams as part of a five-year analysis of the program in the state. Student participation in the program has increased each year.
“Our students are here to focus on building their success as contributing adults. Our staff is here to underscore that every enrolled student will be educated. Our team approach between students, staff, and parents is that everyone has a responsibility to step up to the plate to achieve this purpose,” said Dr. Luce. The 2017-2018 school year will be the first year University View Academy high school students will be able to enroll in an Early College Program, which allows the University View Academy senior to graduate with two years of accredited courses towards a four-year college diploma in Louisiana or a full Associates Degree from a Louisiana community college. “This announcement about AP scores shows our school community is ready for the unique role in serving Louisiana families,” said Dr. Luce.
