Warren Easton Charter High School Foundation will host its annual Warren Easton Hall of Fame ceremony Friday, May 13 at 7 p.m. in the school auditorium at 3019 Canal St. in New Orleans. The Class of 2016 Warren Easton Hall of Fame includes Metropolitan Opera star Charles Anthony, world light-heavyweight boxing champion Willie Pastrano, educational leader Danielle Yunusah M.Ed., former athlete and civic leader Allen Rome, civil rights attorney Ronald Wilson, Major, State Police Leonard “Mel” Ryan, and editor and author Carroll Trosclair. The inclusion of the Class of 2016 will bring the total number of members in the Hall of Fame to over 152, including 18 honorary members. Selection for the Hall of Fame is based upon contribution to the community, excellence of character, significant professional accomplishments and a demonstrated love for Warren Easton Charter High School. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize Warren Easton alumni and members of the Easton family for their achievements and to set a standard for current students and future graduates.
As part of the ceremonies, college scholarships totaling more than $120,000 will be awarded to 34 Easton seniors. Funds were raised by the Hall of Fame Committee from private donors. Over the years, the HOF has awarded more than $500,000 in scholarships to graduating seniors and presented faculty members with more than $20,000 in teaching excellence awards.
