Young Audiences Charter School (YACS) will hold its first school-wide exhibition of artwork created by its visual arts creative learners in grades K and 5th - 8th. The “Art Bright” Exhibition will be held on Thursday, October 18th, 2018, 5pm-7pm at Young Audiences Charter School, 1407 Virgil St, Gretna, LA 70053.
“YACS is excited to present our first school-wide exhibition of artwork created by our multi-talented students,” said Young Audiences Charter School Leader Brandon House. “This exhibition is part of Young Audiences Charter School's mission to educate through arts integration and equip our creative learners to flourish as leaders in life and learning.”
YACS invites the community to attend to celebrate the talent and creative expression of its aspiring visual artists. Professionally matted and framed student artwork will be for sale, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the school.
“The gym will be transformed into a YACS gallery space and attendees can browse displays of student artwork,” said House. “Families and community members can participate by coming out to celebrate the work of YACS's visual art students, and by purchasing framed artwork to raise money for the school.”
Over 420 pieces of student artwork will be included in the exhibition. Light snacks will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.
Opened in 2013, Young Audiences Charter School at Kate Middleton is an open enrollment, arts-integrated charter school in Jefferson Parish for grades K-8, and expanding to high school in 2019. Enrollment is open to any Jefferson Parish student. Recent research shows that students at schools with an arts-integrated curriculum scored higher on standardized tests and academic measures than those at other types of schools, including academic magnet schools. (PAIR, 2013) Additionally, students involved in the arts have better attendance, fewer behavior referrals, increased class participation, and are more likely to report a love of learning.
