Morris Jeff Community School will hold Open House events for prospective students in Pre-Kindergarten - 8th grade on Tuesday, October 23 from 6:00pm-7:30pm at its Lopez campus, 211 S. Lopez St. in Mid-City and for grades 9-11 on Thursday, November 1 from 6:00pm -7:30pm at the Clark campus, 1301 N. Derbigny St.
Morris Jeff will offer PK through Grade 11 in the 2019-20 school year. Its first senior class will graduate in 2021. Morris Jeff is the only World School of the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) in Orleans Parish offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) and is a Candidate School of the IBO’s globally recognized Diploma Years Programme. Morris Jeff Community School is the recipient of a $60,000 grant from VH1 Save The Music Foundation. The school is celebrating with a grant presentation that will feature a performance by Morris Jeff students along with special musical guest The Presidio Brass Quintet. The school will use the funds to create a band program for its middle school students. The grant will also provide 35 band instruments for students, along with method books, music stands, music racks and staff training. Jerry loved to inspire young, inquiring minds and was a mentor to her colleagues. Named “Teacher of the Year” twice, her passion and influence were undeniable. Jerry was a kind and graceful educator -- calm in disposition yet unwavering in her conviction to educate and mentor. Although the pain of her loss will continue throughout the MJCS community, in her memory, MJCS will christen the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten hallway of Morris Jeff Community School the Jerry P.
